Have been MIA for more than 2 months... hehe... didn't travel much + lazy = no update for 78 days. :p

What have I been up to? You were asking. I took up PLANE SPOTTING as one of my many hobbies and activities to pass time. I was hooked since the Air Carnival Kuala Lumpur 2006 and after meeting up with some fellow Malaysians spotters. Now I go to KLIA twice a month on regular basis usually from 7am to 1pm. It sounds crazy alright ... but it was awesome looking at those metal birds thundering down the runway for take off or burning some rubber during landing. Here's some photos taken with my humble G6. :)

Air Carnival Kuala Lumpur 2006

Organized by Malaysian Sport Aviation Federation (MSAF) to promote sport aviation in Malaysia. The carnival run from 24 to 26 Nov. I was there on the saturday and I had a blast. But I couldn't get myself on the Cessna joyride because I was so damn broke at the end of the month. Damn... :-(

Chinese Opera

Took these photos at Tow Boo Keong Temple in Ipoh during the annual Nine Emperor God festival 1, 2. The festival is to celebrate the return of Nine Emperor God from heaven to earth. During the 9 days (1st to 9th day on the 9th month of lunar calender) celebration, the deity is worshiped by devotees (lotsa of joss-sticks & smoke) and to be entertained by traditional opera and dance. Tonite is the final day of the celebration where some of the hardcore devotees would walk on red-burning coal and wear some really huge body piercing to entertain the deity. Similar like Thaipusam and those sort of act that you would expect to see in Ripley Believe It Or Not.

I had lot of fun shooting with my high school buddy. We even had time to take the front row seat and watch the last scene of the opera, which was a sketch. We almost laugh our heads off watching the show. :)

The Band consist of two Er-hu, one Yue-qing and a saxophone.

This is one of my favorite photo from my Lang Tengah trip. Standing in 1 foot water while waiting for the light to improve for almost one hours was all well worth it. Incidentally, this photo is the last photo I took before I walked back to the resort.

This photo showing me taking the above photo on the other hand was taken by a friend from Singapore - Wai Kiat, from afar without me knowing it. What's most amazing about this photo is the exposure time - 4 seconds to be exact! Haha... I was standing there statically for more than 4 second! I didn't realise I was so into it until I can stand there for such long time. :p

Famous last word - "Sometime, I almost never fail to amaze myself".

Lang Tengah Island

This is my second dive trip of the year and the last before monsoon hit the east coast islands. Together with me on this dive is inbam who was certified OWD last April. Saw lots intriguing sea creatures, went thru a few thermocline during deep dive, visibility of the water was so so. Best of all, saw the other side of Lang Tengah Island and almost got lost in the jungle on our way back. :p

Tiny Fella! Found this small transparent cleaner-shrimp in between some bubble corals, hence the name bubble shrimp.

Chasing Shark! Me chasing a black tip reef shark which s commonly found in shallow reef or cape.

Nemo aka clown fish is abundance in the reef of Redang Archipelago. The way they dash in and out of their host anemone is just comical. :-)

Twin menace! This pair of moral eels was hiding in the coral crevices.

Saw this huge school of rainbow runner fish during a deep dive at Karang Bahar, Lang Tengah.

Barber Pole cleaner shrimp!? (Stenopus hipidus) They are often found in male/female pairs with the male 'hitching' a ride on the female's back.

Christmas tree worm (Spirobranchus giganteus). It feeds by filtering plankton from the water.

A group of unidentified closed anemone. See their tentacles inside the 'ball'.

A blue damsel fish in focus. hehe... usually they are difficult to be photographed at close range.

Jack fish. Tak tau sedap tak buat ikan bakar. ;p

Find me if you can ! Discovered this juvenile scorpion fish (Scorpeanopsis sp) while snorkeling at a shallow reef. Luckily didn't step on it. They are usually found near coral rubble, relying their camouflage for protection. Their dorsal, anal, pelvic fin spines are venomous.

I recently noticed that I'd been posting photos dominated by either only warm or cool color. So I decided to post these photos of flowers to spice up this photoblog a bit. :) All photo were shot in super macro mode using Canon Powershot G6. Location is in Selesa Hillshome Resort, near Bukit Tinggi, Bentong, Pahang, MY.

Took this when I was on my way to Pasoh Forest Reserve, the study site of my final year project. The vast area of grassland on both side of the road was oil palm plantation, cleared for replanting. Indeed a rare sight in Malaysia to see such vast area of grassland. BTW, the tree in the photos was a rambutan tree.

This set of Putrajaya pix was taken during a photo outing with a friend early this year. The light wasn't great enough to get any outstanding photos. It was more of stroll in park than a photo outing, had a lovely dinner by the lake side. A enjoyable trip. :)

Bangunan Yayasan Sabah

Sabah Foundation Building or better known as Bangunan Yayasan Sabah stand 122m above ground level, is Borneo tallest building. The 31 storey glass-shrouded tower with 72 sides is said to change colour according to the hue to of the sky. And it's best demonstrated with the following photos. Enjoy!!

My sis gave birth to a healthy baby boy on the 20 April, thus making me an uncle. OMG... sudah jadi tua!! (old already!?). :)

The thought of having someone calling you uncle and looking up to you all the time scared me! ;p

Nightscape Photography

When someone told you that you couldn't possibly take a nice picture in almost pitch-dark situation, then he certainly don't know how to 'play' with light. I did some really cool nightscape photography while I was at Redang Island. Thanks to the full moon and some ambient light from the resort, I was able to capture some really surreal pictures of Kalong Bay, Redang.

Warm tropical water + Swinging Palm Trees + Nice sandy Beach - make you so wanna go skinny-dipping. ;p

The Beach Front. Not that nice with some coral rubbles but it was OK.

Starry starry night. There were a lot of stars in the sky considered it was full moon that night, you can even see the southern cross (the Crux), Jupiter and the constellation Centaurus in the photo. The light at the horizon was not from mainland but squid-jigging boat.

To get this photo - we were standing there statically for 15 secs. haha... it's all worht it!

Diving at Pulau Redang

During the Maulidur Rasul weekend, I traveled to Redang Island with inbam, Nosrat and the other 5 friends for my long overdue diving trip. This was my first dive - more than 2 years after my Open Water Training and the great Sipadan dives. Though I have been to this part of the world many many times, diving here for the first time - I felt like a 'virgin'. ;p After the refresh dive, I could once again fly like a bird underwater. hahaha... I logged a total of 8 dives during the trip, making it 16 in the book. ;p Took lots of photos with my newly acquired A610 and waterproof casing (camera & casing was later passed to my sister who currently doing her degree in marine bio at KUSTEM).

Giant Puffers. They can release powerful toxin if threatened. They are considered a delicacy in Japan, where they are known as fugu, and fugu chefs must be specially trained and licensed in the preparation to effectively remove all the poisonous parts of the fish, which is then served raw as in sushi or cooked.
